In my hunt to ways of achieving goals, I read a lot of websites which talked about a common pattern of people who achieve their goals constantly ... and most important without real efforts.

If you observe the habits of people who are consistently achieving their goals, you start to realize that it's not the end results that make them different. It's their commitment that help them reach their GOALS. They are passionate about their daily routine, not the individual event or work type or results of solving a problem.

Below are some examples of who needs to do what to reach their goals:

If you want to be a great blogger, then having an excellent popular blog is wonderful. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of writing/expressing.

If you want everyone to know about your business, then it would be great to be featured in news channels and newspapers. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of marketing.

If you want to be in the best shape & looks, then losing 20 kilos might be necessary. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of eating healthy and exercising consistently.

If you want to become exceptionally better at anything, you have to fall in love with the process of doing it.

In other words...
Stop dreaming about the results,  focus on the process, and let results drive you towards your goal.

Well, I just blogged to fall in love with the process of writing and sharing.

The secret behind reaching your goals

Its been a while since I posted something. Well work at workplace kept me super busy. One evening in the hunt of what's my IQ score, I started searching about how do you judge someones IQ and ended reading the below Info-graphic. It clearly shows the common pattern of good and bad habits shared by most of the smart people.

"Those with high IQs tend to set goals and read avidly", this is the most common habit you'll observe in some of the smart people around you. The habit of "setting goals & sharing with others" is really what I would like to copy from these smarties ...

4 tricky interview questions for all jobs

farhan akhtar

Can you guess the name of this person ? He's a famous bollywood actor, inspiring millions of youths. While reading the DNA newspaper edition of 2nd Feb 2013, I came across this picture. Two striking things about this picture were, one - the actor was in Pune on 1st Feb and second he was in the college where I studied my Computer Science for 4 years - Singhad College of Engineering.

He was here for the Sinhgad Karandak - a 40 day sports and cultural event. He's known for the top notch movies like : Dil Chahta Hai ( directorial debut ) portraying the Indian youth generation, Rock-ON and Zindagi na Milegi Dobara and many more. So the question is if he's so famous, how could someone mistype the entire name ? Spell errors are acceptable but his news in the DNA newspaper was a complete bizzare ... Read the news below :

farhan khan dna news

He was mentioned as "Farhan Khan" instead of "Farhan Akhtar" .... these are two different bollywood personalities ( Farah Khan is a female Indian director ). News & Journalism marketing in India is filled with lot of players and if DNA (which has just completed 5 years) needs to succeed , such mistakes can't be ignored. I am sure Farhan Akhtar may not have liked this ...

Copyscape is on of the best online tool to find if someone is copying content from your site and re-publishing it without your permission or credit to you. Today with no control over who publishes what on the Internet , plagiarism is common. Very few site owners actually deliver original content resulting to increased organic searches and site ranking.
So what inspired me to write this article ? While looking for sites who are linking to my site, found a new link from itportal.in. The site owner copied an article from my site without permission. If you want to find out such sites , just copy and paste the URL on Copyscape.com and it will quickly search for copies of your page on the web.

Found some sites that copied content from www.pcclm.com. Free version will have limitations specific to the number of searches that can be done. But if you are serious about your site and its content , you should go for the premium version of Copyscape. Below are the search results for one my posts on this site which was copied by itportal.in site:

Copyscape also provides free banners to protect against content copying or plagiarism. But ensure to use the banner on your site only if the content is original. In order to respond against plagiarism one can send an email to the offending site owner with a request to remove the content. If the owners details are missing on the offending site, use whois to look up the site details. One may also file a complaint of Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) infringement with Google and other such search engines.

Lastly analyze the type of plagiarism before you take an action against the offending site.

The above image was captured from http://plagiarism.org.For individual content owners, Copyscape and duplichecker are likely the best tools, however for businesses, online services such as iCopyright Discovery and Attributor are more reliable solutions.

Online Plagiarism Check - Who is copying your data ?

Its very common to land on a web page that you were really searching for and be frustrated by reading the message : 404. That’s an error. The requested URL /pcclm was not found on this server. That’s all we know.  Nothing wrong in the above message, in fact this is much better than nothing being shown by the browser/website. So what is it and how to fix this mess ?

Think as a customer, if you were to reach a shop which was open yesterday, but is closed for no reason ... you'll obviously not like it. But if the shop owner displayed a note like : "Closed for today due to an emergency. For anything urgent contact me : [mobile number]" ... Impressive !!! This shows that the shop owner is really serious about his business and can't let a single customer go away. Same is the case with any website which is like an e-shop. Don't let your visitors bounce from your site, just because they couldn't find something that already existed. Because generic messages can be frustrating to the user, we recommend you to create an awesome 404 page to provide more useful information about your site. Some commonly seen errors are :

"Error 404"
"404 Error"
"404 Not Found"
"HTTP 404"
"Error 404 Not Found"
"404 File Not Found"
"404 Directory Not Found"
"HTTP 404 Not Found"
"The requested URL [actual url value] was not found on this server."
"404 Page Not Found"

So it makes more sense to have a custom "404-Error : Page not found. " While trying to optimize my site , one of the suggestions was to improve the usability by adding a custom 404 ERROR page which increases user retention. So this is what I did ...

The above message is much better and provides the user to search the site or look at the user's social links. Most important, site owners email contact is provided for any urgent concerns. In addition to this you can customize the layout, colors used and even add an image or a video in the above message.
The video, found on nosh.com, for a 404 error message is interesting and cools down the visitor's temper. Watch the video below, shown for a broken URL on nosh.com :

If you are using blogger for your site , its easy to create a customized 404 page. Log-in to blogger.com and Navigate to  YOUR Blog -> Settings -> Search preferences. Now under the "Errors and redirections" section, edit the "Custom Page Not Found" option. By default the value is not set by Google. You need to edit it and add any valid html code.

If the home link is not visible from the 404 error page, one may also provide a link to the home page of the site to ease out the navigation for the user. How about compensating for the issue ??? watchco.com is setting a trend by offering a $10 discount for users getting a 404 Page not found error on their website.

Code used to create a custom 404 error page for this site :

HSBC on climate change ( What we believe from core) , A stunning view of the swimming pool in Mumbai (Bhakti Park, Wadala). The eye-catching swimming pool in Mumbai, India, has been built to raise awareness about the threat of sea level rises as a result of global warming.

It was constructed by attaching a giant aerial photograph of the New York City skyline to the floor of the pool. The idea was conceived by advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather, who were commissioned by banking giant HSBC to promote its £50million project tackling climate change.

The Ogilvy team came up with an innovative way to show the adverse impact of global climate change. They glued an aerial view of a city to the base of a swimming pool. When the pool was filled with water, it gave a shocking effect akin to a city submerged in water. The visual of a sunken city shocked swimmers and onlookers, driving home the impact of global warming, and how it could destroy our world someday.

HSBC wanted to convey the message in a unique visual way that would grab people's attention and couldn't be ignored , obviously in such a situation Ogilvy team cannot be ignored, they did justice to the message.

Stock photos are photographs that are copyrighted to some extend and cannot be freely used for either personal or commercial purposes. Stock images are licensed for specific use like promoting certain products, e-marketing or as a display label on some products. Stock Photos help organizations save money on hiring a professional photographer and then creating a promo banner for marketing. Special images comprising of individual or group of people with all possible emotions, culture and age-group  are available on stock photo providing agencies/websites like Shutterstock.com , BigstockPhoto.com , photos.com and many others.
These agencies offer mostly photographs that have been shot by professional photographers. But the biggest problem with stock images is that two competitors could end up buying the same photo. Well that would be the biggest drawback in marketing their products for both the companies. In such situations  - its the advertisement audience who start getting a wrong impression of the company and are left in a confused state.

Such details should be taken care by the marketing department of the company but the pressure to release the product before the competitor, is so much that they end up buying the best available image which obviously even the competitor would buy due to similar pressure conditions.

Everyone knows the amount of advertisements shown in  India on Indian Televisions , on Roads, big banners above the buildings , advertisements on the walls of the fly-overs , on the traffic signal pole , on the road light poles, on public transport systems etc. Its just bombarding the end-consumer with ads. Recently while surfing the Internet I found an interesting image on my friends facebook profile. It showed how two competitors were using the same image for marketing. So I decided to find out the truth. Let me first show you the image :

As you can see its the same family photo used on both Health Insurance company's websites. Isn't that shocking ? Well I decided to find the truth myself. I opened the same link (Bajaj Allianz.com - Health Family Floater) for Bajaj-Allianz as shown in the above image. To my surprise the image shown was different. This is what I found :

Now its seems that either the photo on Facebook could be a fake image or BajajAllianz changed the image. So I surfed the link to icicilomard to find  the story there ... found the unexpected.

This means both the companies have changed the photo or the image on facebook was a fake.Lets handle it case by case : Why would both the companies change the photo ??? Well there could be a third company who has the rights. I tried looking at other health insurance companies in India like : Max NewYork life Insurance, LIC , TATA AIG and others. Guess what Tata AIG had the same photo shown in the first image. From this link here's a screenshot of what I found :

Oh mann ... why are these companies using stock photos ??? seems like customers are attracted towards choosing the health insurance of the company seeing at the happy healthy family photo and not by the features provided. Well that's how the marketing industry runs ... thats how the brains of majority of the population are trained to look at things... A good soap is the one being used by a celebrity in the Advertisement and not the one which has ingredients to protect, moisturize and deodorize your skin ( and trust me .. its only in the advertisement and I am sure that the celebrity may not be using it in real life ). Lets get back to our original health insurance stuff...

If BajajAllianz and icicilombard changed the images ... how can I see that history ??? Well thanks to my techy insight and ofcourse Google. Google always caches the web pages for some period of time. I quickly tried to find out the cahced webpages of BajajAllianz & icicilombard. Below are some satisfying results :

See its the same image being used by Tata AIG ... below images show that even icicilombard had used the same image for marketing... this is something serious that both the marketing companies need to consider. One solution is to start using your employees photographs as they represent the company. Results for icicilombard's cached webpage on Google :

Bizzare ... this was not meant to blogged about , but thats the truth ... And Guess what after Googling so much on a sunday evening ... there's another reknown product in India that uses the same photo ... (luckily its not related to health insurance but a health supplement ... hahaha )

Well, enough of investigation, else I might find many products using the same image for marketing... These are some marketing fundamentals which even big companies in India fail to follow.

Why one should not use Stock Photos

Google has this built in feature to compute equations directly on the search box of Google homepage, which is something like a built in intelligence and on the fly computational power (search and understand the searched string).

A simple example is , if you are asking someone "Do you know the time ?" a computer/robot will answer "Yes" but a human would answer "Yes. Its 2:30 pm". More than just Question & Answer format. Similarly Google search engine is smart ... if you type "time" and search, it will return the first result as the time of your location followed by all search results for the word time.

This Valentine's day Google or rather some one really smart is helping spread this by an excellent equation. Try searching this on Google :

sqrt(cos(x))*cos(400x)+sqrt(abs(x))-0.7)*(4-x*x)^0.01,   sqrt(6-x^2), -sqrt(6-x^2) from -6.5 to 6.5
Now the reality is, someone really smart has designed this equation but its floating on the internet as, Google Love ,Google Heart for this Valentine's day, Send a Google search query to your Sweetheart, heart equation of Google, Gift your Valentine a search query.

Another variation of the above search query :
sqrt(2*cos(x))*cos(400x)+sqrt(abs(x))-0,6*(4-x^2)^0,1

But my question is "can we find out who was the first person to post this equation on the internet ? Well only Google or any other search engine might know this. However twitter user Huckberry did tweet about this equation long time back. Suddenly people have started playing around this equation to try different combinations to create objects like "A teddy bear holding some Chocolates " , "A Red Rose" and many more. The craze will surely continue even after valentine's day for may other such occasions.Well done Google. Thanks Amit.

Another intersting fact is, try to search the word 'recursion' on Google, the link ' Did you mean : recursion ' will never go away even if you click it. That's the real meaning of recursion.

One of the interesting facts of SOPA , "Under SOPA, you could get 5 years imprisonment for uploading a Michael Jackson song. One year more than the doctor who killed him." Thanks to Prasanta also for providing this information.

With all the context , here's the entire story :

Finally one of the comments I read about SOPA ,
"This will stop privacy not piracy. Most hosted servers will simply relocate outside the juristiction of the US. This bill will only give more power to government to shutdown sites it doesn't like, i.e. WikiLeaks"
